Couple of questions for those post hysto - or anyone who knows..

Hi guys I am about 5 or 6 days post total abdominal hysterectomy.. I was just wondering after your hysto did you notice a small burst of changes due to the sudden change in hormones? Like more facial hair filling in or easier to build muscle for a while etc until the levels plateaued again?? And I know there is no "sex" for like 6 weeks or whatever but what about outer play (so to speak) like nothing inserted obviously (I don't do that anyway) but stimulation of the little guy to O - how long post op did you need to wait?

I'll be asking the doctor these questions anyway but just thought I'd see what people here thought/had to say as well.

I did not notice any surge of anything; but then I had my hysto within the first month of starting T.

IMO pleasuring the little guy: as long as you are not putting yourself in a position that stresses your incisions, or hurting anything internally (take doc's advice regarding sex, as they assume PIV), like all else use your body as a guide.  I don't think I waited to long following hysto, and I know for sure I didn't wait too long after lower surgery (ie as soon as it felt comfortable to handle).

I noticed an increase in hair - both body and facial and also a little more lower growth. This could however be because a few weeks before my hysto I switched back to injections from gel.

Wishing you a happy and stress-free recovery. I'm now 7.5 weeks post hysto and had complications with haematoma, I only stopped bleeding last week!

Congraduations, Aussie Jay, wish I was getting one soon.  Do you a vertical or horizontal scar?  Was there a reason you got an abdominal hyster over the ones where they only make a few small incisions?  I am hoping to have mine with as small an incision(s) as possible. How has the recovery been so far?  How long have you been on T?  I wish mine was scheduled for tomorrow then I would be rid the pain and mess forever, it started yesterday so my dysphia is bad right now.

Tay - mate bad luck with the haematoma.. I had that with my chest surgery and had to go back to theatre after a day so I know how frustrating that is. Hope you're now on the road to recovery! Tough to tell about your changes too.. Will just have to see if I experience any sort of surge. I would imagine my levels are now higher as the T doesn't have anything to override - I'm hoping my facial hair will fill in some more!

mm - thanks mate! I will have been on T 3 years next month 🙂 I have a horizontal incision about 30cm across my abdomen (hip to hip). I actually was supposed to have it done lapriscopically (with the smaller incisions) however on examination of me once I was asleep on the table and reviews of the scans the surgeon said it wasn't possible so it was done abdominally.

Recovery so far has been good. I had a morphine button when I woke up. But it didn't really touch the pain I had across my belly so they gave me a lot of extra morphine which in turn made me intensely nauseous. So I spent the first 10hrs in pain thinking I was going to spew every time I moved my head!! And anything they gave me to stop feeling sick didn't work either. It was absolutely horrible, wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. But after I got a little sleep (with a tablet!) the next morning I only had minimal pain at the incision site and no nausea (thankfully!). Day 2 I was just on oral pain meds..

Apologies for TMI but I don't believe in sugar coating.. It took til about night 2 to be able to fart and the wind pain was intense but intermittent. And it took about 4/5 days to get the ole back passage to open up if you know what I mean - and again waiting for that was a little painful but intermittent. They really don't want you to "bear down" for risk of herniation or dehiscing the incision so I really didn't push it... After about day 3 I have just been on panadol and brufen. Am still taking both but now not as regimented and only when I need it. Moving around and walking etc is slow but not too bad. The most painful things are sneezing (excruciating!), coughing and sudden movements. As for bleeding I had some minor loss the night I had surgery, then a couple of days of spotting but as of today (day 6) I have had nothing.

Any other questions mate just ask. I am so glad it's done - was something I really wanted. I didn't know how I would have coped if I had experienced another period after starting T - think it would have been completely incapacitating and traumatic to be honest! And well I've never has any sort of checks down there so I was getting anxious at almost 30 that something could be wrong and I wouldn't know. The worst part was actually acknowledging that those parts of my body existed and dealing with the finality of removing ANY chance in the current world to have genetically linked offspring.

I thought Id just chime in here. I had my total abdominal hysto just over 2 months ago. I didnt actually notice any surge of changes (well, I havent so far) although I have heard that this can happen. I have my next shot on Wednesday. So I am hoping that this being the first full cycle post hysto (Im on nebido) will bring about more changes. (Well, Im just hoping for facial hair growth. Im over 3 years on T and still got nothing 😛).

Regarding the little guy. My hysto was with my phallo surgery, (they havent covered or moved the little guy yet, so access is still the same), so  I was understandably more sore than with just a hysto. But, even considering this, I was back to the usual habits around the 12 day mark. I think that was when I was able to start playing and cummin again. Before this, I was just not feeling it at all. Too sore, too tired.
  It was alittle tentative for the first week or so after this, but you quickly feel like yourself again 🙂

I suffered with haematoma with my chest surgery too, which meant I had to go to emergency surgery the following day and nearly had to have blood transfusion. Just seems to be something I'm prone to after surgery, unfortunately. The only positive was that this time it had a convenient way to self-drain, so I didn't need further surgery. Although it was very scary when it suddenly burst through.

Yes, pain after this surgery is a lot to do with wind and constipation. Take it easy and remember everything your body has been through. I think now that hysto surgery isn't really talked about enough and is played down a lot. Mine was much, much more painful than chest surgery. The first sneeze felt like the world was exploding! Laughing was also not much fun!
