This is pretty uninformed, so I'll appreciate everything you can tell me on the topic. Supposedly there's 'sprays' and stuff that were intended for bio males losing hair. Some FtM's have been using these to help grow beards and chest hair. I have a family member who is keen to know more about this. Thought I'd ask you guys and gals because if anyone on the internet ought to know, it's the people here.

So if you know any pros/cons and brandnames, please reply.

Thanks in advance for whatever feedback you can give.  ;)

From what I've heard- anything that is intended to be used on the top of your head (for baldness, etc) will NOT help grow facial and chest hair. It's different type of hair.

Sortof like trying to use Nair for your legs on your face...it doesn't have very good results.

i am totally misinformed as well... but I'd just assume that if you shave enough, the hair will eventually grow in more? *shrugs*

Nah, I know it's a popular myth, but shaving has no effect on hair growth.

Yep, Kate's right. Shaving has no effect. You just gotta (*grits teeth*) be patient.

but it does make it darker and thicker, right?  That can help with appearance.  Or am i off on that one too?

Thanks for all the replies. I'd googled about Rogaine and it says that once you stop using it all hair growth will be lost. It's a non-stop thing you have to use apparently.

^Yes, it is. But imo it's a small price to pay for facial hair until I can get on T.

Hi,

This is a myth too. If it were true, you'd never see a guy with a wispy beard. I shave almost daily and in between shavings, the hair is still scraggly. Hair growth is mostly genetic. Shaving doesn't do anything for or against it, otherwise, I would shave my head to get my hair back.

I've been shaving the 'peach fuzz' off my face for, I dunno, twelve years or more. It's a good idea as a subtle thing that'll help you appear more masculine, 'cause even though people don't really notice the fuzz, it makes your face look softer.

I'd say the hair on my face is thicker and more abundant now in general. If most of the hair wasn't fine and white it'd be a thin beard. I've also got a few little pencil-eraser sized spots (most of them on the right side of my face) of beard-like hair, and a little line of the same on the lower edge of my chin, where I've got a scar. They're not a beard either, but those hairs are coarse and some are black or bright red and quite visible, and I have to shave 'cause they're noticable and silly-looking if I don't, like old-lady face-hairs. I like having and shaving them -- I can scritch my lover with my stubble.

Probably it's more genetics and age than from shaving, I am in my early thirties and am really hairy even without T. But the little beardy patches weren't there when I started and the fuzz is more like hair than it was, but is still just fine fuzz. Chances are this sort of thing is the most facial hair shaving can give you, and isn't going to be a very satisfying difference.
