QuoteGay marriage campaign? It's the first step to Third Reich, says Carey

Opponents of gay marriage are being treated in a similar way to the Jews at start of Nazi rule in Germany, the former Archbishop of Canterbury claimed yesterday.

In highly controversial remarks at a rally of anti-equality campaigners, on the fringes of the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham, Lord Carey suggested that the intolerance of those in favour of gay marriage risked turning Britain into a totalitarian state. He also warned that gay marriage was a step on the "slippery slope" to the polygamous relationships of traditional Mormons.

Deepest apologies for the title and the nature of the opening claims. Needless to say, this guy is long past it and trying to hold back a major tide of support for liberalisation of marriage. So called 'Gay Marriage'.

With support of all the major parties, including the PM and chancellor of the exchequer, it is going to happen quite soon, but it's always interesting to hear what opponents say.

Elton John, in the same paper wrote a very interesting comment:
Quote
Elton John: The historic fight for equality must go on. Let's get on and legalise same-sex marriage

I know a lot of people, and perhaps especially religious people, will say that David and I should count ourselves lucky for living in a country that allows civil partnerships, and call it quits there. In most countries around the world, gay people aren't just disallowed from coming together in a legal sense; they are actually persecuted by governments because of their sexuality. Maybe we should just be happy that we at least have a civil partnership, and not push our luck.

Well, I don't accept this. I don't accept it because there is a world of difference between calling someone your "partner" and calling them your "husband". "Partner" is a word that should be preserved for people you play tennis with, or work alongside in business. It doesn't come close to describing the love that I have for David, and he for me.

If I may add to Elton John. Comparing crap to crap, doesn't mean it isn't crap. Crap is crap. The comparison is just degenerative justification.

For me, this is especially sweet. I grew up in a world where 'Homos' were bottom obsessed degenerates, a danger to children, animals and women. The first time I fell in love I was breaking the law.

I didn't think I'd see this day. And it does feel sooooo good.

Actually, homosexuals were persecuted as well under Hitler. In other words, it's the other way round.
