Anna.N.

I recently moved to Texas to take a new job.  I'm not terribly far from Houston and somewhat closer to College Station/Bryan.  I transitioned years ago.  I'm finally working in a place that will allow me to afford surgery whenever I can get all my proverbial ducks in a row.  I'm thinking sometime in the second half of next year.  Unfortunately moving meant giving up my medical resources, so...

I'd like references for the following:

A T-friendly GP, mainly for ordinary medical stuff not related to being TS.  I just want someone who isn't judgmental and will give me proper care without my having to worry about his or her attitudes towards us.  If the same doc is qualified to handle HRT (prescriptions, blood work, general health monitoring) so much the better.

An endoc who will continue my existing prescriptions without hassle and make sure that HRT isn't adversely affecting my health.

A therapist.  I honestly don't think I need to go back into therapy.  I've had years and years of it.  I do, however, need to jump through all the gatekeeper hoops.  Hopefully we're talking about someone who will write the letter in a reasonable period of time without discounting the years I've already lived as a woman.

If I have to travel to get the best care (i.e. Austin or Dallas areas) I'll do that.  Houston would be much, much better.

Thanks in advance for any help.

There is an area for HRT a little further up the board. If you do not get a response here in a few days (or if a mod can move this) then you might want to post up there. I would not do so right away because then it might be considered crossposting.

BTW, welcome to Susans.

Anna,

There is a very good therapist in Houston who is involved with many of the international transgender health groups - Denise O'Doherty.

My family doctor was ok with me being TS and treated me with respect but was had only treated one other TS - you would still need an endo.  Her practice is west of the city - Dr Nagavhi.

Congratulations on your new job!

I always wanted to be someone.  Now I am someone.  It just isn't me.
