A House leader on Friday urged the House of Representatives to ratify the Anti-Discrimination Bill seeking to protect the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT).

Rep. Teddy Casiño of Bayan Muna party-list, chairman of the House Committee on Small Businesses and Entrepreneurship Development, said that the ordinances protecting the rights of LGBT passed by the cities of Quezon and Cebu should spur House action for the ratification of his
Anti-Discrimination Bill.

The Quezon City Council passed an ordinance calling for its existing crisis center for battered women and maltreated children to extend medical, legal or psychological assistance to members of the LGBT community.

The ordinance of the Cebu City Council, on the other hand, penalizes any form of discrimination against persons with disability, different sexual preferences, ethnicity and religion.
Like Casiño's bill, the Cebu City ordinance also prohibits excluding, refusing or dismissing any person from public programs and services and educational institutions on the basis of disability, age, health status, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity and religion.
