I have called LOADS of places to find out the exact same thing. My foolish self thought that it would actually be oh, I don't know, less than 10 grand.
See, the surgeon's fees are only 2,000-2,500. No biggie. The anesthesia runs about 700-1,000. Again, no biggie.
The problem is, surgery in the abdominal cavity that includes removal of organs is not done in-office. It is done in hospital. They consider it too big of a procedure and too risky to do in an office.
Now the hospital fees, I have been quoted from 9,000-13,000. Never once have I gotten a single quote lower than that, and that is just for having the procedure done in their hospital. If you need to have it as an inpatient and stay in a room, the price goes up. Not all but many hospitals will also ADD a per-minute fee for the use of their operating room, and the hospital fee does not cover the surgeon's fee or anesthesia. I have NEVER, EVER, after calling dozens of hospitals, found ANY who would accept less than half of the hospital fee up front. They simply will not do it.
This is a major problem, because I actually have a disorder and am bleeding and in pain. I was diagnosed with pain, bleeding, and possible cervicitis before I had insurance, so unless I can get a new diagnosis (such as endo, fibroids, etc to cause the bleeding) then I will have to wait one year to have insurance cover treatment.
Unfortunately, it seems that the minimum you can pay for a hysto is about 10,000$ once all of the fees are factored in, and then you will still get a whopping bill afterwards.
The best thing you can do is work with a doctor who will examine you, and if you have unusual cervical cells or any other sort of problem or abnormality, you can get it covered by insurance.
