According to a recent report, Creating inclusive workplaces for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) employees in India - a resource guide for employers by Community Business (a unique membership based non-profit organisation), though Indian organisations acknowledge the benefits of a diversified workforce, many still do not include LGBT candidates in their corporate diversity agenda.

The report further reads: "However, with the tide of the change taking place (as evidenced by changes in legislation and the emergence of a more visible LGBT community), not only in India, but also across Asia, companies can no longer ignore this issue.

It is easier said than done though.

LGBT employees in India face several challenges in venturing into the mainstream, which force many not to reveal their identities or go in for open discussions about it.

However, the corporate sector can pitch in as 'change agents' and play a huge role towards changing the mindset of the society at large through the right interventions.

Several progressive organisations are trying to do just that by formulating policies, so as to provide ample opportunities for the marginalised groups at the workplace.

Finally something good from my local newspaper...

Sometimes we just need to believe.
