trigger warning

So yesterday I made a post that featured the stat of 1 every 36 hours.

Where did that come from, you might ask.

Well, that comes from the Trans Murder Monitoring Project, which is going to release on November 14th, the stats for murders that happened between November 20th, 2011 and November 6th, 2012.
In an email they sent out to their list, they noted that the above update would be posted, and with it, the following statement:

Sadly, we have to announce that the TMM research team found more than 1000 reports of murdered gender variant/trans people in 56 countries worldwide since January 2008, and more than 250 reports of murdered gender variant/trans people between 20 November 2011 and 6 November 2012.

That's over 250 people killed in the last year. One person murdered every 36 hours on average.

You get that number when you divide 365 by 250. The result is a little bit under 1.5. 1.5 days is 36 hours.

So, actually, I'm being *low*.

Thanks for the link.  Our own Dyssonance did a good job of bringing this data out.
