The Glowing Girl

The glowing girl—
more than an ember
burns within her now
a blaze of color for hair
her smoldering eyes
they dance more than they stare
like thought itself
touching nothing
holding everything

The glowing girl—
as beneath Suicide Bridge she passes
above her loom the pillars of the sky
then darkness
of a sudden closes around
her passage to the other side
the mountain a range of feeling
cold in the earth
nameless
in the company of souls preoccupied
thumbs tapping mystic messages
to the spirits of the air

A sudden brightness!
I come into the light once more
Alone but not alone
For I carry the glowing girl.

Or is it she
who carries me?
Am I the spark that burns within her?
Am I the image in her mirror?

Who reflects is also reflected upon.
This comforts me.
