Did a bit of a double-take for a second , before I realised it didn't mean Western Australia.

Congratulations to the locals for being so enlightened.

BRB, off to cross the border to get high and gay-married.

In all seriousness I'm so relieved that the marriage amendment passed. That means our efforts in Oregon are more likely to succeed.

Well you had 3 vote for it Washington, Maine and Maryland.  And one state voted against making a law/amendment prohibiting it (Minnesota).  So, that's coast@coast, and that's nice.

But, as nice as it is to have people vote it in, it still gets adjudicated at some point (lots of points).  And just because it's voted, does not mean it's going to happen (see: California votes to restrict it).  So the SC is going to get cases this year, and that's pretty much going to end the problem.  You'll have votes for it, legislation for it, and court cases favoring (or at least saying that the state can't stop it).

But it's still going to be a patchwork because of Federalism.  I don't see Mississippi, or Kansas doing it anytime soon.

But DOMA is about due for a repeal.  And then there will be the next wave of court cases when people who live in Mississippi or Kansas get married somewhere else and return home.  That's the problem that DOMA was intended to shortstop - the issue of comity between the states.  Last time we had a fight about that it resulted in a Civil War.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...
