BirdOnTheWire

Hey everyone!  Long time lurker here, I've really enjoyed reading so many of the threads on here and learning so much.  I'm not sure what made me finally decide to finally sign up but I hope I can at least contribute a little.

I'm 27 (just had a my birthday in Oct.) and have been confused over who I am for a long time, to put it bluntly.  I suppose I would consider myself to be transgender, MtF.

I've only recently started getting my head screwed on right and taking some control/responsibility of my life.  With out going into a lot of detail, I've had my fair share of struggles both in my health and with substance abuse.  Needless to say I feel like I'm finally getting to a place that I can at least be some what real with myself.

I've known from a young age that something was a tad different about me.  Almost seemed like the feelings came in waves...some days/weeks I'd be comfortable in myself and other times I just couldn't shake the feeling of not being right.

I don't really have much of a support system.  I've lost touch with many of the friends I had, ones that had an inkling about how I felt.  Only really expressed these thoughts to my parents once, about a year ago in the midst of a downward spiral.  The subject has never been brought up again and I haven't pushed the issue.  Something I don't really plan to do any time soon either.

So...lol...with that said, I look forward to getting to know everyone.  Really seems like this is a great group of caring people. :)

Hi BirdOnTheWire, :icon_wave:

Welcome to our little family. Over 9001 strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion.

Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams.  Ask questions and seek answers. Give and receive advice.

But remember we are family here, your family now. And it is always nice to have another sister.

Hi Bird, (Long Time Lurker  ;D  )

A big Aussie welcome to Susan's family. It's good of you to drop in and say "Hi". Hope you like it here, and you stay for a while longer.

There is a mountain of information, resources and friendship waiting for you here, as you doubt are aware, you just need to jump in start talking and ask any question you like. You're quite safe here and we are very accepting, as you already know.

Happy Birthday, for last month. October is a fabulous month for birthdays. I hope you made a feast of it.

Good to hear you are getting your act together and taking responsibility for yourself. You'll succeed and go a long way with that attitude.

Check to whether there is a LGBTIQ organisation in your area, they would be a good source for starting a real support network. Although a virtual on line group is good, there is something about that real face to face stuff that just doesn't work on line.

Looking forward to hearing more of your story in time to come, but in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.

Lotsa huggs
Catherine

Thank you all for the warm welcome!  At the very least this should be a very interesting learning experience lol.  And thanks for the belated birthday wishes.  I'm not nor have I ever been a fan of birthdays, I certainly don't feel 27, that's for sure.

Yes October is a wonderful month.  Actually kinda weird how many people I know with birthdays in that month. All around the same birth year too...Must have had some bad winters. ;D

I love the fall tho, by far my favorite time of the year.  Granted down here in Florida, you'd never know what season it is.  Can't wait to move back north.  As they ways it's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live here.

Hi Bird, welcome from Boston! I gots to ask, how long have you been lurking? You'll like it better in here with the rest of us. See you around the site, hugs, Devlyn

Thanks Devlyn!  I'll say I've been lurking off and on for maybe a year or two.  This was probably a year or so a go.  Just recently, past few weeks, I've started checking back here and finally decided to take the plunge.

The whole time lurking I was not really well in the head or in health.  I'm kind of happy I didn't sign up back then. I think I would have been mortified lol.  I'll say, alcohol is a hell of a drug. >:-)

But yes, happy days are ahead!  Everyone seems so nice and welcoming, I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.  Kinda feel like I'm at a summer camp lol.

Hi Bird,

Just reading your reply to our inimitable Ms Devlyn reminded me of how I started here. I originally found Susan's back in the 90's, read up on what was available (GCS surgeries were no where near as prevalent as they are today), processed it and thought it was totally impossible for me to do. Then about 18 months ago I found Susan's link on an old disused server, checked it out to see if it was still alive and the rest is history. HRT, full time, GCS next year plus more. Wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for this family Susan created.

Enjoy your stay.

The lurkiest introduction I've read was eight years, I can't remember who it was. Anyhow, glad you're here, hugs, Devlyn

Well that's good, I didn't want to come off as a creeper hah.

Yea I have to admit, it's a really awesome thing, what you have going on here.  The internet can be a wonderful tool.  Just to see how much love and support there really is out there, gives a little hope for the human race heh.

I think I will look into seeing if there's any LGBTIQ groups around me.  I was seeing a therapist, about year and a half to two years ago.  It was unrelated to to any kind of GID issue.  But right around the time I was starting to open up to her, she had to take a leave of absence from work.  Refereed me to another person who was supposed to be more suited for gender related issues, but I could not stand the guy.  I don't have many pet peeves, but he literally nailed every single one on the head.  Needless to say that didn't last long.

After that I just kind of stopped seeing anyone.  Now that my head is a bit more clear I'm kind of wanting to go back to see someone.  I'm tempted to wait till I move out on my own though.  The issue with insurance and my parents is kinda of a cluster...well you know...so yea.  Not sure what to do...at this very moment.  Kind of just focused on getting another job right now.

Hey Bird ((Welcome))!!  Sorry I am late to the table...  There is a tremendous wealth of information here.  I'm new too, and feel like this could be a full time job.  But I like it.  Feels real good to be surrounded by so many caring people.  And don't give up on the therapy - It's just like riding a horse.  You hafta get right back on (and some times you step in some horse sh-t).  It really helps sort it all out.  Peace, Holly
