It's an incredibly entertaining and nuanced show. I'm curious as to what other people's opinions on Doc Hammer might be, as in my opinion, he is clearly binary nonconforming. One thing I really want to hang on my wall before I die is a framed poster of Dr. Girlfriend with his autograph on it. The first time the show really caught my attention, I was channel surfing back in the navy and I happened to see Dr. Girlfriend talking in her gruff voice and I was suddenly mesmerized. (Wonder why...) I've seen interviews with him and he's very cavalierly unconcerned with what anyone thinks of him or the scripts he turns out. At least that's the outward appearance.
The story arc with Hunter from the OSI really amused me. He makes me chuckle when he's sitting there with his arms and legs crossed with unmistakably fem posture in spite of the fact that he's detransitioned and presenting as very overtly masculine. In fact, the whole Sphinx organization is pretty awesome. They're a group of hard core ass kicking straight, gay, and trans paramilitary operatives who completely disregard each other's preferences and personal lives, instead focusing on the tasks at hand. I believe this dynamic is intended to be used as a source of humor, given the military's position on ... well ... everything. It's too bad, because the social acceptance within Sphinx is totally believable. Society just needs to get to that point.
Anybody remember when Orpheus went to see his master and the guy manifested himself as Orpheus' ex-wife? He spent the whole time basically ignoring Orpheus and marveling at the body he was occupying at the time, talking about how amazing her ass and tits were (in the voice I've come to know as Archer, which makes it even more funny) while generally having a good time feeling himself up. (Herself? This is confusing.) I believe the last thing said as Orpheus was on his way out was, "I'm gonna go do jumping jacks in front of a mirror," or something to that effect. Now here's the clincher for me. The portal Orpheus takes to see this guy is in Triana's closet. In the closet... Yeah, I only just put that together.
Has anybody else given this any thought? It seems like the show could easily be more entertaining for trans people than anyone else, so long as we approach it with a sense of humor and don't get bent out of shape. I was disappointed to find out Dr. Girlfriend's voice was entirely due to smoking six packs a day, but I still think I'm going to be her for Halloween this year. :-D
