What's with the lack of rain and snow boots?

I spend most of my time in a city where you have to walk and take the subway everywhere. It snows in the winter and rains all the time in the spring. Yet, I never see men wear rain or snow boots here, even though all the women do. It's snowing right now and I haven't seen one guy with a pair of boots on even though about 70% of all the women I've seen are wearing boots. I just don't understand it, why walk around with wet feet if you don't have to? I think there's nothing more uncomfortable than walking around all day with wet socks. If you think rain boots look bad, just do what everyone else does up here and just change your shoes once you get to your destination.

They like me don't care about weather. They are over the weather!  ;)

Think about it. A suit would look so stupid with shoes that don't match. That is mens fashion I think.

It's weird to me to hear men caring less about practical clothing than women.  I never really see men wearing clothing that's not appropriate for the weather, but see women in short skirts and thin shirts on the windiest day of the year so far (I was riding my bike and hit a headwind and practically stopped).  Men just seem to wear a thick jumper and not give a toss what it looks like.

That's more common with older guys than younger ones though, but I'm assuming that you're not a teenager.

I don't even own a pair of boots, lol. I'm always in Puma or Nike sneakers.  Then again we don't have public transportation here (I live where there are cows and corn fields) so walking in the rain or mud isn't likely.

I have however seen many cis males not wearing coats in the Winter. As if it is manly to freeze your balls off. I don't understand what that is...I wear a hoodie under a coat when it's cold out. Having hard nips under a binder isn't the most comfy thing on earth, lol.

I kind of think cismen might be better at dealing with cold weather, they never seem to be as bundled up as the ladies. My husband almost never wears a coat or a hat when I am always freezing my ass off.

Yes, a suit would look stupid with boots, but the women wear rain or snow boots with their suits then change their shoes once they get in the office. Most women's rain and snow boots are just completely ugly and come in all sorts of obnoxious colors and patterns, so it just seems weird to me that suddenly men are style-conscious when women aren't on rainy days.

I am just sort of sick of hearing a guy I know always complain about his socks and shoes being wet even though he knows this will happen everytime it rains or snows, and yet he still continues to wear running shoes outside in that weather.

I haven't noticed that here and see lots of guys wearing different sorts of boots. Its pretty common. Women here tend to wear taller boots, where as guys tend to wear shorter boots. Most guys I know tend to wear hiking boots, docs or some kind of combat or other leather boot. I always just wear my hiking boots in winter and then just make sure to waterproof them before it starts snowing.

What do guys wear where you are? Running shoes in winter or something? lol

Yeah women have those rain boots that are usually in hideous floral or bright colored patterns. Men just have boots or shoes. Although I think some guys that spend hundreds on their shoes (I'm thinking execs, really fashion conscious guys, etc.) would not be wearing those out in the snow/rain/mud but would either opt for boots or galoshes to protect the really expensive shoes. I don't see a ton of rain boot options for guys, but I have seen the galoshes in more metropolitan areas. I do see guys in boots all the time. Not the rubber rain boots but actual boots.

men tend to not wear boots because men resist change and dont think ahead. also girls wear boots when it isnt raining or snowing. men tend to go with the same shoes day in and out.

I actually don't think I see women here often in rain boots either to tell the truth. I only ever notice little kids wearing rubber rain boots lol. Usually I see women wear the tall boots sometimes with a bit of a heal or something. Personally I don't see the point in rain boots when you can just waterproof more comfortable boots and your feet don't sweat like there's no tomorrow, lol.

Edit: kind of surprised to read all these posts saying guys don't wear boots where some people live...I feel like most guys I know only wear boots lol Different places different footwear I guess :D

Yeah, I live in the South so it doesn't get awfully cold like it does in the Northern States. It has been colder this year more than last. Last year I wore shorts with a hoodie all Winter long. I hate wearing pants though. Sitting in track shorts and a T shirt right now...it's 40-something degrees out.

I'm totally with you about the shorts...though people usually think I'm insane for it. I live in Toronto so I'm not sure its a weather permitting it thing as much as what you said of the "I hate wearing pants" thing. I hate pants lol I've had to resign to pants on occasion lately though when it's dropped below -2 but as long as it hovers around 0 I'm shortsing it haha ;D

I wear work boots if it gets bad. If I'm wearing long jeans or pants they go over the high part of the boot so it looks like any other shoe.

I only see women in fashion boots.
I see men in Timberlands and hiking boots.

These are Dr Marten wellies. Excellent idea, might want to get those for myself, actually. I live in Sweden, where I've seen people wearing Converse shoes in the middle of winter (young people do this, usually their shoes so worn they're more duct-tape than shoe by then).

I've never seen anyone wearing rain boots here, and Wellington is a wet, rainy city.  What you folks seem to be describing as rain boots are available here, but they're used on farms and by freezing works workers and so on, not to walk to work in.

I think T may have an effect on the way you handle temperatures.  I always tolerated feeling cold well, but this winter it's like I can't even feel that it's cold.  The ladies at work are huddled around the space heater, and I'm barefoot and in shorts.  This summer it was similar; I remember being surprised how little I felt the heat.

Yeah, I think T stops you feeling the cold as much.  Also, some people just don't feel it because their metabolism runs hot or something.  I've never felt the cold.  My dad doesn't either, but my mom always feels cold and I've got a (cismale) friend who's the same.  We used to call him onion man because of all the layers of clothes.  It seems like there's a lot of variation between people.
