Does anyone know how things are for TRANS folk in Vancouver Canada?  I recently visited there and I really liked it. I have been playing with the possibility of moving there.

ANYONE?

Vancouver is a very progressive city, BC has trans rights protections, SRS is covered under public healthcare, there are a couple of therapists and endos who treat trans folks etc. The trans community isn't super big is the only thing. And there isn't a ton of support. But it's better than most places.

Thanks for that info! Yes, I was very impressed by the city and I DID notice there wasn't the support publicly (meaning LGBT Centre) that we  have in my hometown. They do have a Centre but it's having some issues I heard with leadership stuff.  However, I loved the city and Davie street was fun. We're are thinking of moving there possibly. ;D

Hi Steph,

I know there is one person from Vancouver, but haven't seen the member post in a long time, don't remember her name. Looks like Sarah has info to some of your question. I can email my Sis & her husband as they have lived in Van since the mid 90's. My bro-in-law works at a hospital and counsels troubled teens, some with gender issues and sends them off to gender therapists. Sis has retired from a medical career. They may have a concept of how gender friendly the city is, they go to the Pride week. My Sis has her married son & daughter there, and they are all accepting of me. Last May visited and the niece & nephew scouted the gay area for LGBT friendly clubs and we all went to one on a Thursday night. This was the first time the niece & nephew same me girly. Because it was night & I was driven, I don't recall where in the city, street or club names.

I have an amazing family, visited them several times in the last few years. I used to ski & had been to Whistler in the 80's, so I love that you can see the mountains from Van. Sis has shown us around the city and surrounding areas. We love Van and after my wife retires in perhaps 5 to 7 years we are having thoughts of moving there. Due to little space between the coast & mountains it makes housing expensive. I love being by Oceans & beaches (probably from my Dads Newfoundland birthplace on the Atlantic that I have visited many times & that I have lived in Toronto most of my life & only a few miles from Lake Ontario).

Pleased that you like Van & I am sure you will probably love it if you move there.

Cheers

Jamie

I don't live in Vancouver, but I do visit and go to some trans related things there...  It's an expensive city to live in, but it is rather nice :)

Vancouver is not the worst place. In the gay part of town Davie Street area they just painted the sidewalks rainbow colors.  There is a pretty good Transhealth group.  It is a friendly place to live but very expensive to live. Any other questions shoot me a pm
