Smart phone dilemma...

I got a smart phone about a month ago. It has 4G Interwebz and is quite fun to have. But I have found a problem with having the Web so conveniently close...

I don't have an actual home phone, but I do need to have one by my bedside...I have been known to get calls at anytime.

Back when I had a regular cell phone (no Interwebz) this was not a problem. If I wanted to check a thread here, or my email, or anything else, it wasn't worth my time to fire up the laptop (which wasn't in the bedroom anyway, by deliberate choice...the bedroom is for sleeping).

Ah, but the phone...the phone...with it always being on, and any destination on the Web being just 3 taps with a stylus away...I've been finding myself waking around 1 or 2 am to check things out (and posting this thread).

What can I do to stop this?

Thx for any help or tips.

PS, Yeah I know "Just don't do it" but that doesn't seem to be working...

I suggest you should start checking your email more than you want to, and basically just spend too much time on the internet. Make it so it is a problem and causes you not to get stuff done. Basically, the goal is to get burned out on it so that sleeping is a needed break. Good luck.

OMG I've been doing that since 1997, when I first got online! LOL...I've actually toned it down quite a bit from the early 2000's (web got in the way of my sewing) but now that I don't have that interest anymore, the web addiction is still there...

I don't know if this is possible, but maybe there is some sort of "parental block" you can set up with your provider to shut off the 4G after a certain time?

Have you tried treating your smartphone like its a baby and putting it down for the night? If you sew a little pillow/sheet/sham/comforter ensemble for its docking station, you can exercise your motherly instincts, pat it gently if it starts to cry during the night and give it some electricity and put it back to bed. "We'll play in the morning, sweet thing, but its bed time now. There there, go back to bed now. That's a good phonie baby."

LOL...funny thing is, here it is midnightish, I'm in bed "nursing" the phone...yes I can have a parental lock on it, but I don' wanna!

I think I'll just keep trying self-discipline...oh yeah, spank me! Make me stay off the Interwebz...
