it's an American product and it was made in 1956  :)

It is the IBM 350 random access disk file unit, one of the first commercial disk drives, which was part of the IBM 305 RAMAC general purpose computing system.

The disk drive could hold approximately a whopping five million characters of data.

Yea, it is a IBM 350 random access disk file unit  :) more than 1.000 kg heavy and with capacity of 5MB lol, can you imagine now a USB key with 4GB against this IBM unit?  :D

That's huge.  Compare that to the tiny microdrive (an actual mechanical hard drive):


They are currently available in capacities up to 8GB and a 20GB one is supposed to be available this year.
