GID will no longer be in DSM, it is now Gender Dysphoria

I know we knew about it here on Susan's, but here's the first article I've read in the news about it:

--Eliminating the term "gender identity disorder." It has been used for children or adults who strongly believe that they were born the wrong gender. But many activists believe the condition isn't a disorder and say calling it one is stigmatizing. The term would be replaced with "gender dysphoria," which means emotional distress over one's gender. Supporters equated the change with removing homosexuality as a mental illness in the diagnostic manual, which happened decades ago.

  That's good.  They dropped Asperger's though, but kept dyslexia.  I am dyslexic and has been accused of being an Asperger's person.  To me, Asperger's is a social death sentence.  My HRT regimen turned on some receptors that should have been on during puberty.  That and my social status disproved that! 
  I was at a club potluck tonight and was asked to go on a date from a woman that was not seen at a club function for a long time.  I immediately said yes!  Without hesitation!  My first date! GO FIGURE!!!  Yes, she knows I'm TG.

Wow, congratulations! I've always wanted a person to ask me out on a date...

I think they changed Asperger's from a specific diagnosis, to more of a broad range of conditions.

They also did that with the various dissociative disorders (I think in the last DSM version)...now there's like a sliding scale of variables, not firm diagnosis (because most people don't fit neatly into one category or another)

But, I'm not a dr. or even vaguely knowledgeable about these things anymore.

Dysphoria, disorder, whatever. Clearly it matters more to some people than to me, so if they're for it, I'm for it.

No, that depends on the upper brass, the secretary of defense and the president.  The President usually won't delve in the military personnel selection requirements.
