We got a lot of responses — and plenty of questions — about the recent column regarding San Francisco becoming the first city in the country to pay for gender reassignment surgeries for uninsured transgender residents.

Q: Is there a residency requirement?

Plenty of readers said they feared the city would be on the hook for any Tom, Dick or Harry who moved here seeking to become Tammy, Diane or Hilary. There is a residency requirement, but not much of one.
