"I'm not sure why some people feel so intimidated by the "born this way" theory. I don't know if it somehow challenges their own sexual orientation or gender identity, or if they feel it will lead to the end of the world as we know it.

But the outright denial reminds me a little of the denial by cigarette smokers for so many years, who said there was no evidence that smoking was bad for your health (while politicians stood by and let the tobacco companies sell their products, and moms and dads smoked in front of their kids)."
