This may be old news but I was pleasantly surprised when I went to get my prescription at walgreens filled. My doc had added progesterone, at my request, to my med list and she prescribed medroxyprogesterone. I called her and asked about switching to prometrium and she was fine with that but said "It's gonna be 10X what medroxyprogesterone costs which is why I didn't suggest it". She was right, the brand drug was going to cost $85 for the small size in a months supply, the medroxy was $9. The generic with my discount card is $45, about half as much as the band name one. I'm not sure how long generics have been available in the US but it's good news that the safer/less side effect prone med is now more reasonably priced..

Maybe I'm reading the forum wrong, so generic prometrium is now available in the U.S.? My doc/endo only prescribed estradiol via climara patches and said I did not need progesterone. I heard that the synthetic progesterone gives bad mood swings, but the natural progesterone, does not.

Lots of docs say it does nothing, some people say otherwise from using it. I don't think anyone knows exactly how these meds will affect each person.

Anyway this generic is a bunch cheaper than the brand name drug.
