Had a complete hysto yesterday (including cervix removal) and am doing great! I had to have mine as an open procedure (larger incision) due to a tumor in the back of the uterus (they looked at the tumor under a microscope and are pretty sure it's not cancer but are doing the biopsy anyways). Four hours after the operation I was up and walking around the floor. My doctors are impressed.

If any of you ever have fear or reservations about the operation, don't. With proper pain control it really is a breeze. I will tell you that you will have spotting for awhile afterwards (they said I will for a while) because of the cervix removal but it is all worth it.

My surgeon is writing me a letter and once I have my top surgery (hopefully in 2 years or less) I will be able to get my gender marker changed.

Things are looking UP!!

Simon, congraduations, so glad you are doing so good.  I good attitude goes a long ways in having a successful recovery.  Your little spotting will be the last you will have need for a pad, just think no more monthly bleeding ever again.  I sure expect your tumor willn't be cancer.  Keep us posted and have a good recovery follow your dr orders and on what you can do.

I dont fear surgery or the pain itself, But I had alot of infection on my bladder, since I was a child and now as grown up. I fear that having it remove could make it worse, or something =(

Natkat, have you talked with a surgeon about how a hysterectomy might effect your problems with bladder inflection? The surgery could even improve your situation.

Emotionally it was hard. Just being there to have female parts removed (that is admitting they are there) really sucked and I had one good breakdown due to dysphoria.

I just got home about an hour ago (Had surgery Friday morning/Home Monday night). Everything looks great...nothing left to do except keep the site clean and rest.

I had not yet come out when I had mine done, but was in early transition.  I told them to call me Jay, which I'm sure they interpreted as Jaye, but whatever.  I was just so thrilled to get those parts gone.  I had been on T for a month.  The spotting didn't bother me so much as I knew it wasn't the red death; the parts were GONE.  Best day of my life. Take it easy.

Also in my case all of the other F members of my family have had serious issues including cancer with their F parts, so I'm glad that ALL of mine are gone.

Thanks, I'm still waiting on the reports from the official biopsy but they looked at it under the microscope and said it did not appear to be cancerous. The chance of it having cancer is very minimal at 5 or 10%.
