Truth be told, the best binders are the homemade ones. I have binded for years and have tried several different ones. I find that while the long ones might help with waist management, they can constrict your ribs and cause future medical problems. The short ones are good but they can make your skin roll underneath and give you and odd shape or even worse a more feminine figure. The best way is too do an old fashion method of a strip of fabric and wrap it tightly to bind and pin it much like they used to do in the olden days in place of bras except tighter. Use a slightly stretchy knit fabric about 3 to 4 inches wide and about as long as you want or need. You can wrap it several pieces around to make your chest flatter but just remember the more fabric you wrap, the more it will show. By using this method, you can control the tightness of the binding and adjust it if you need to hide and skin rolls that occur when you bind. For those with larger chest sizes, you can add duct tape at the end to secure it further but don't wrap to tight and cut off circulation. This is a cheap and easy method, plus the fabric can easily be replaced and washed. I recommend at least giving it a try.
Also, for those who might go swimming, you can get a water proof duct tape to hold the binder in place, but remember not to wrap to tight. And never, NEVER use an ace bandage as it can break blood vessels in your chest and cut off circulation, causing complications for future surgeries.
