For some odd reason I just got a selective service letter in the mail. It included a registration and it also says my sex is Male on it which I find weird because they also put part of my social security number on there. You would think they would run this through the SSA but apparently they dont.

Does anyone know what this means? The funny thing is, I don't remember even checking off selective service on my FAFSA because I havent even touched it since last January.

are u legally a male now?

I have had top surgery and I have had my marker changed on my license but not my birth certificate or with the SSA because I haven't had a hysterectomy or any type of bottom surgery. So according to the SSA and in regards to my birth certificate, I'm not.

There may be a law linking driver's license applications to sss registration. If the state has you as male on the dl, then...

Our standard advice is to fill out the form and send it off. You'll never hear from them again. Hugs, Devlyn

If you have "split" documents (one male, one female) and are filling out a FAFSA, that could be enough to flag you as male. Are you registered as male with the school?

I'm with Devlyn Marie. Fill out the form and see what happens. Worst case, SSS does check you in the SSA database and kicks you out of the SSS system because you're not legally male with the feds. Best case, registering now could save you hassles later. The only way to find out is to do it.

The registration already went through, like I'm actually registered and everything. It is weird because I didn't even submit forms and it turns out my mom may have selected my brother and I both on his FAFSA for selective service or as male or something.

The letter says:
"Dear Registrant,
Please keep this letter or the wallet sized registration acknowledgment provided below as proof of your registration. Please review it carefully. Use the top portion of this letter to update and/or change your information. Mark through any mistakes and write the correct information. "

So I have the official registration to carry around but I just don't know how or why I was registered.

Did you ask your mother about it?

Yes I did ask my mother but she has no recollection of doing it so I have no idea how it happened but it did.

Not sure since we don't have a draft anymore. If you were 18 in 1970, you might be going to Vietnam.

...But, if the draft ever does come back...when the doc says, "Turn your head and cough", it'd probably be a good time to let him/her know you're FTM, because they'll be in for one shocking surprise (and you will be, too! LOL)
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

Well if it doesn't come back until a year from now or later, that may not be a problem because I have been talking to a few doctors about bottom surgery options so we will see. And apparently, I can opt out or something and just bring that up if I haven't had surgery by that time. The Selective Service made the mistake and somehow social security checked out, interesting.

similar happened to me too.  when I went to DMV to change my gender marker, right then and there they signed me up for selective service. so it must only have to do with driver's license gender marker and not SS.
