For those in the MA/Greater Boston area, First Event is coming up at the end of January.  It's a 3 day transgender conference, and it looks like they have a pretty interesting range of speakers (from surgeons to families discussing their relationships as/with transgendered members).  I'm not sure if posting a link is kosher, but a quick search for "TCNE First Event" should bring you to the event's website.

Has anyone been to one of these?  Anybody planning to go to this year's event?  I'm leaning towards going, and it would be great to see some of you there!

I went to first event in '05. Not really my cup of tea, although I did get to see a lot of people I had only known online up to that point. Ended up getting stuck up there for a few extra days too because it snowed like 30 inches and flights were cancelled and delayed. But I stayed with a good friend, so it wasn't so bad.

I've gone twice, each time I drove down for a day, didn't stay overnight. When I went, it didn't seem very friendly for anyone such as myself who presents outside the binary. That was a few years ago however, so hopefully there is more diversity represented now. I've thought of going again, not sure I can make it this year though, due to my work schedule.

I think that kind of event actually sounds pretty nice for some people.

However I am curious these family speakers are they all ones who go from the start we supported and loved them or a range of no acceptance to complete acceptance. I ask this because I come from a none acceptance family and to hear families chat about how they loved it and all would most probably lead to me hating the whole event.

However if you go please give the community feed back !
Awww no my little kitten gif site is gone :( sad.

Z- I can check the schedule when I get home, but I believe there were at least a couple presentations that included reference to non-binary audiences.

LilDevil- from what I remember reading in the description of one presenting family, it seemed like it was acceptance from the start. My impression is that it may be more catered to SO's, but I'll let you know if it seems like there may be a greater range.

I have never been to any of these. I went to an IFGE one once I believe in 2000. I was actually thinking of going just out of curiosity, unless it's a pay to get in and walk around. I'll be in Boston the week before for the international car show being a petrol head and looking for new ways to spend money :)

If anyone is actually going and has some conference details let me know and zumbagirl will show, just not wearing Zumba clothes lol.

I just moved to the Boston area and I plan to go to this (my first time).  It looks like there will be some good presentations and some providers (wig, electrolysis, etc.) will be around.  I'm looking forward to meeting others at the social events.
