Some time ago I posted a thread asking what I could expect from Spiro alone (as my doctor wasn't going to put me on estrogen until making sure the Spiro was not having any bad effects).

I've been on Spiro for about 6 months now (slowly increasing dosage from the start - consult your physician for your own schedule), and this is what I have noticed...

Breast Growth - A couple of others mentioned this could happen, but it seemed to be considered a pretty minor chance overall. Well it happened. Not like HUGE, but noticeable. We're talking AA's at most but... they're certainly changed. They're... pointier. I mean I can't really wear any shirts too form fitting in public because it's pretty noticeable when I do. They're a different shape than overweight "man boobs." Also there is a tenderness to them which is occasionally unpleasant which didn't use to exist.

Loss of sex drive - This one wasn't as bad as I'd feared. But it was just as certain as I'd been told. I just don't have the same kind of sexual need as before. I can much more easily just ignore it or even ... forget about it (unheard of before)... for long periods of time. That said, I can still enjoy sexual pleasure. I just don't feel the NEED to do it so much.

Body fat increase - It's funny, because my weight has remained pretty stable. But I look fatter. Some of it is going into pleasingly feminine areas in subtle ways (see "Breast Growth" above). But most of it is just accumulating in an unpleasant pot belly. A diet is now in the works. I suspect this is coinciding with a loss of muscle elsewhere, but I can't really tell.

Body hair growth slowing - Nothing dramatic to report here. But there are subtle changes in the rate my body hair grows. It's overall just slower than before. It still grows in all the same areas. Dark hairs remain dark. Still a male hairgrowth pattern. But... it's noticeably slower. Not so much the face. But the arms... the legs.. the chest. Slower.

Anyway, that's my big report. I hope it helps anyone with the same kind of questions I had about it before starting. (Your results may vary. This is just my own personal experience so far.)

As far as sex drive, I had almost zero on spiro + estradiol. It was actually a problem often since I have a girlfriend. Did a little research and got my doctor to throw in medroxyprogesterone and I have had no problems after adding that. My libido seems to be very in sync with my GF now. Basically, I almost never get random arousal but when necessary I can definitely be aroused. I've read some too that it helps with nipple development too and it's insanely cheap (6 dollars a month for me from walmart). I'm sure there are other options too but no doubt a lot of people see no sex drive as a good thing.

Yep, there's that tendency to make pointy boobs. It happens to almost everyone. It's about the way mammaries expand when they are original equipment or originally bathed with testosterone.

a prescription for bio-identical progesterone along with bio-identical estrogen should show change toward rounder and more "real" looking breasts if you use those Rxs for a year or two.

Of course, there's always the option of BAS and the surgeon can correct what cones are there and turn them into melons if you wish. :)

Best of luck in your journey.

I may be way of, but my understanding was that AA was used to shut down T production, until E took over. Once E has taken over you should need a lot less AA.

Regardless, AA will only stop T, it will not feminize enough to pass. It will leave you stuck in between and going crazy without any other hormone replacement.

There are many different reasons for combination therapy. And in this we are guided by our medics. There is no off the shelf treatment. Diana_W is doing the exactly correct protocol for her, according to her professional carers. So lets be a little cautious in posting stuff that doesn't mean anything. It doesn't help and suggests that we do not need our medical carers to plan the best protocol for us as individuals. I know too well how well therapy needs to be targeted to the individual. I very nearly suffered a catastrophic event following what many would call 'standard' therapy.
