I've read that HRT does not cause existing fat to redistribute, but instead acts on new fat added after starting HRT.  Is this true?
I could say that makes sense, but then again, I have no idea and haven't started HRT yet.  I'm considering if I should try to burn as much existing fat as possible before HRT or just start HRT as is.  I've lost about 30% of my body weight in the last year in preparation for this and I wouldn't mind hearing that new fat is potentially a good thing :)

That's also what I've read. It seems like pre-existing fat gets redistributed, but it's perfectly explainable by the thought that fat will prioritize female-typical areas over male-typical ones, so when you lose fat in male areas (done by just living, breathing, moving), it seems to move to female areas.

I guess I forget how complex the human body actually is and how dynamic things are inside. Fat cells are shrinking and expanding all over the place.  I think I need to go back and rewatch Osmosis Jones  :P On a serious note, it's good to know that you can't go too wrong in getting started.

As one who have been on HRT for 5 years plus, I can say it very much depends on your genes.  I have had zero redistribution.

Remember the old Chicken Fat song?

Go, you chicken fat, go away!  Go, you chicken fat, GO! ;D

I think burning as much fat as (healthily) possible before HRT then gaining some more when your levels are stable in female areas is an effective approach. But it doesn't mean redistribution won't happen if you don't do that. It'll just be slower. There's a little bit of burning and storing done daily even at a stable weight, isn't there?

Ms. OBrien: I guess this might be another display of the effects of age on effectiveness. Though for you to have zero redistribution (and assuming your levels are right and blah blah), it makes me worry a bit about that stubborn belly/waist fat. I hope it moves away. They make me feel fat despite my weight being quite in the healthy range (and "oh my god so sickly and emaciated" for my mother xD).

I envy people who were skinny at some point, and had the occasion to ruin that slim waist and flat belly themselves. I was born with flab all over the area, and never once looked thin in any way. D: They say there are all kinds of body types and each of them can be beautiful, but I'll tell you, to me, mine is a pain in the butt. Hopefully I get some sort of acceptable amount of breasts when I get a better dose, to compensate. Else I'll be very sad.

I think genetics are probably a major factor as well, but that's just something out of our control...time will tell. I feel for you with the "oh my god so sickly and emaciated" comments, been there.
