In addition to getting ready to take my mother for surgery and starting a new business, I've been doing some renovating. I took my water heater out and discovered this:

So the next project was to rip away the rot (and yes, that is a supporting wall. The beams underneath were rotten too:

This is the almost end result. I did the mudding and priming after this picture, but the walls are not even and never will be. I must move on from the search for perfection and get on with it:

Why are renovations never as simple as they seem?
And on the list of unanswered questions, why did my water heater not fall through the floor?
