Im pre hrt but full time, im 6ft and my shoulders are 17.5 across and 39 cm arounf, is that wide?

Can I have your shoulder measurements if its not to much to ask

Emily Aster

No, they're not. I'm 5'10" and my width is 19" with a circumference of 41", so mine probably look a lot bigger on my frame than yours do.

No... they aren't wide. Mine are 17" and 42" circ. I'm 5'3" and have no issues wearing a tank top.

"Although most measurements of shoulder width are reported using the biacromial width based on skeletal structure, shoulder width can vary as well because of the size of the deltoid muscles, which sit on the sides of the shoulder and because of varying thickness of the layer of sucutaneous fat found under the skin. Because of the added width contributed by these soft tissues, the average adult female shoulder width is 43 cm, or just under 17 in"

To dream of the person you would like to be is to waste the person you are.

Mine are about 15 and a half across, I tried to do circumference but it was too fiddly.
I'm 5'7 ish. Your shoulders sound fine to me.

My measurements are exactly the same, Alex.

Shoulders *are* above average but it's fine, as long as you pass people will dismiss it.

edit: and you're 6ft, god you're perf.
I'm shorter at 5'8" lol
I can pass 6ft in heels though, which is still pretty good.

tall and slim = +++

I'm 5'5" and my shoulders are around 22". No one's ever commented, although I'd always personally suspected they were a bit broader than proportional (mostly from the way clothes fit). For someone taller, 17" seems likely to look fairly narrow, actually - plus it's about the balance of shoulders to hips as well. If your shoulders are no wider than the widest point on your hips/thighs, or even smaller, the optical illusion will make them look smaller yet.

Pardon my ignorance.

But how do you measure your shoulders?

Its hard to say when we can't really see in your pic and its always better to see something over just numbers.

Pardon my ignorance.

But how do you measure your shoulders?

I was curious about this, too... A little googling found this helpful site:

http://www.transprism.com/measurements.html
"Shoulder Width: Measure across upper back from end of one shoulder bone (top of arm) to the other shoulder bone (top of arm). It's important to stand with your usual posture and shoulder position"

I have a feeling that some of you other ladies have been measuring from the outside of the arm at shoulder level? Shoulder bone to shoulder bone mine are 15" and I am 5' 7" which by the info in this thread is small and I feel like I have wide shoulders. Measuring from the outside of the arm however is 18". I think my deltoids have quite a bit of shrinking to do though...fingers crossed. I've only been on HRT for a month and a half. How long before muscle mass can possibly reduce?

Maybe its just that my hips are practically nonexistent... yep that too! Please, HRT, be my friend!

I am 5'9" and pre-hrt. My shoulders are 18 inches, but they have a lot of muscle mass on them. When I was skinner they were 15.5-16 inches.

Just Ole Me

It's amazing how much of shoulder bulk is muscle mass. Lose that muscle before deciding how you feel about your shoulders. :)
Just trying to find comfort in this "shell" that doesn't fit.  But I am "remodeling" the shell finally!

At 6'2",  I measure bone-to-bone: 17" and 44" around.
I used to be very self-conscious about them and afraid to hit the street, especially in the summer. But now, after 2 years of HRT... I came to terms with them. I'm tall, athletic, reasonably balanced and figured out in the mean time how to dress accordingly. And... (some) men do fancy my type :) What more could I ask for?

I measured 19" from the outer edge of one arm to the outer edge of the other. (6' here, too) If I can chop an inch or so off that by proper measurement techniques? So much the better.
I still shouldn't have trusted Amazon's size helper, though. Note to self: You are not a women's medium ANYTHING, let alone a tank top.
Don't lose who you are along the path to who you want to be.
