I got some fun body hair, enough that I can't wear any low cut shirts. Shaving doesn't really help since it seems thatI have a permanent 5 o'clock shadow on my chest, is there anyway to get rid of that? Also Im wondering how much does HRT effect ones body hair. I hear that over time it starts thinning out and eventually turning to vellus hairs.  I really hope that it thins out enough within months so i can be confident about showing off my sexy body! ;)

I used to be extremely hairy. It did not seem to matter if I shaved, epilated, used Nair, or whatever. I always had a horrible shadow. They only thing that has helped me is laser. Even after the first appointment, most of the shadow was gone.

Just gotta be patient

I'm a little over 3 months HRT and all my body hair sans the nether regions is either very fine or gone. What's still left over shaves really well and grows slow.

If you can't afford laser at the moment, maybe try waxing? Get it done professionally though... Waxing at home sucks and never works as well as getting a salon to do it.

Get waxed,be warned it will sting a bit but with HRT I had less and less to get done each time and I was a bear.

So i tried using an epilator, pain was exquisite, and it worked well but its going to take several more times to get my chest fully cleared up. Is it bad hours later that its red?

Even now, when I have been epilating my arms for over six months, my arms are still red for a few hours afterward. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. We all react differently. Some of us get red and others don't.

If you think epilator is bad on your chest/legs/wherever but have not tried hair around your belly button (if your unlucky enough to have a lot there) then you do not know what your talkin about :P

Yes though I have red marks around where the hairs are pulled out for like 24 hours or something.

For me, things got so much worse when my breast started growing. I can't imagine trying to epilate them now! I have to use a whole bottle of numbing cream when I get laser done on them.

So i woke up in the morning my whole chest was red, not painful but red. I just had the stupid idea to try it again and its now red and painful, i think i should stop using it and see what hrt does

If I were you, I would wait a few days before doing it again. At least wait till the redness goes away. I have been on hrt for about 7 months, and I have had no change in body hair. Not every one sees changes in that area. Just something to think about.

I totally understand the feeling. I felt absolutely horrible with mine. I tried so many ways to get rid of it before I finally did laser. For me, the chest hair gave me more trouble than the facial hair. I hope you are able to find a suitable solution soon.

I epilated my chest once when I first started hormones because I was impatient. It was painful as hell and I would never do it again. The hair ended up growing back anyways but eventually the hormones made it start to thin out and disappear. It's really just a matter of patience with HRT.

Epilator is always painful, especially the first times you use it.
It gets less painful the more you use it, but I really only use it on my legs often.

It can be a good idea to use some kind of painkiller like paracetamol or alcohol :P

I hope they thin out enough within the next several months, its just all too yucky, how long did it take for it to happen to you?

After 3 months it has become thin enough that I can shave it and you cant tell without looking really close  :D

In hrt land, months is nothing. You might get drastic change or you might not. Just wax. Don't count on the pills/patch/poke.  Waxing will most likely thin it out. I can't speak from experience cause I never had any "typically male" body hair but I get my legs waxed and over the past year the hair has thinned and softened. it could be my hrt, it could be waxing or it could even be that there's no bears near where I live and body hair is a natural bear repellant so my body doesn't need it.... My point being.... There are no scientific studies really so asking people's personal opinions is kind of pointless because their responses aren't based on testable observation. Ad hoc evidence is not evidence.
