Manager tries to make a transition -- in job and gender {Stanton}

Stanton intended to keep his job while undergoing the long process of becoming Susan -- and had drafted an eight-page plan for his city employees that he hoped would make the transition as seamless as possible.

A local newspaper questioned Stanton before he had a chance to put the plan into place -- and before he had a chance to tell his teenage son.

Within days, all but two of the seven city commissioners voted to fire him from his $140,000 a year job overseeing roughly 1,000 employees.
