Dawn Wolfe of Triangle Foundation said her group receives about five calls a week about workplace discrimination.

The Americans with Disabilities Act and state laws give people with HIV protection from being fired for having HIV, but there are no national or Michigan state laws that protect LGBT people.

"On a legal basis, we can't do a thing," Wolfe said. She added that employers do not have to prove someone's sexual orientation to fire them for having a certain sexual orientation.
