When it comes to changing your name on GCSE/A level/Diploma results has anyone bothered? Is it necessary to do so? I was gonna go ahead and do this but it costs about £40 per GCSE certificate and frankly I don't have the money. I don't know how much it will be for my diploma.

When I start uni next year will I be expected to show my qualifications? I guess I won't if all the info is stored on UCAS right? Has anyone bothered to change their certificates? Has anyone needed them for uni or a job?

Cheers

I've not changed my GCSEs, A-Levels and Degree certificates.  The reason is I'm in a professionally qualified job, with it's own certification, and it is these certificates I've changed.

As you are beginning your career, you will need to show all your academic certificates in the future, and to avoid problems I would recommend changing them. Yes you show GCSEs and A-level certificates to employers, when starting in a career.

They do check the lower levels, as they are the basic standard that they will accept. They will definitely want to see you GCSE English, Maths and in some cases Science and the rest sometimes to make sure you have what you claim.

You don't have to change them straight away, your in a university, and you will unlikely need them until you start applying for graduate jobs near the end of your course.

Yeah, Maths and English may be checked and then higher level qualifications. TBH if you have a certificate of name change, the person in admin who deals with it, will very likely have nothing to do with you ever again, if uni is your concern.

Change one every couple months...less of a blow to the budget. Takes more time...but you probably have more time than money.
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

I'm pretty sure that UCAS and similar, including your University, will call you by your preferred name.

not so sure you can have names on university transcripts/certificates changed...are they obliged to?

Don't think uni is obliged to but I would be suprised it they don't because they print them all the time so if you pay for a copy they can reissue without problems.

I would imagine it would depend upon the University's own by-laws. Some are picky about these things. But I do know, they generally like to present a positive intelegent face, perhaps to make up for their practice of not being so.

Hmm I would think it depends on the documentation involved with your name being legally changed.

After all, if you change it legally, what do you get to show anyone that matters 'see, this is what it was and this is what it is'.

At that point I would just show them the original document, prove you own the name, even if it is now legally another one and move on.

Only downside, well how often will you want to be telling people 'yes I was born different, what of it?'.

If it's a hassle and if the certificates involve enough gainful employ to be worth mention, then consider it a monthly cost and just do them progressively.
Well being TG is no treat, but becoming separated has sure caused me more trouble that being TG ever will be. So if I post, consider it me trying to distract myself from being lonely, not my needing to discuss being TG. I don't want to be separated a lot more than not wanting to be male looking.
