Hi All, I'm over a year post op and very happy with it, sexual function and all. However unfortunately, I still have daily vaginal discharge, and the odour can be rather unpleasant - at one point I had swelling and an infection accompanied with discharge, suggesting an infection which I got treated, although I had a strong allergic reaction to the antibiotics. Nonetheless the soreness and the swelling disappeared, but the discharge didn't. I'm not sure if I still have the remnants of an infection, but if I do, I seem to be allergic to all of the antibiotic treatments (SEVERE cramps and vomiting). Does anyone know how to deal with discharge, or any good liners that can at least minimise odour?

I use Libra panty liners when I have to.  They generally cut down any odours.  And a good wipe with toilet paper too of course.

I just had a look at my hospital discharge papers which mentioned about odor problems and  vaginal discharge, and think that you may want to call your surgeon's staff on this.  I had to have a gynecologist from my health plan check me out at the request of my surgeon, and I had a full blown yeast infection, which did not smell the best either, but the idea was to get the particular type of yeast under control without killing off some of the other naturally occuring skin bacteria that give women a uniquely female odor down yonder.  You may just have killed off the good stuff with the anti biotics, and need to let it grow back, but you could do better with a gyno's help.

My discharge sheet says that I can expect some discharge for a year plus since the skin used does have sweat glands that are now in a nice warm place, and there can be some blood cell material crossover.

As far as panty liners go, Always long do fine and are comfortable.  Luckily for me right now, the discharge is minimal so I go through a couple of pairs of underwear per day and do not use liners.  I was also given firm instructions to use ONLY cotton underwear for most normal daily wear.  (I could risk cute nylon jobs for a few hours I suppose, but I haven't found a reason for it just yet.  wahhhh  wahhh!)

I've had intermittent discharge, but the fact is that all women do to some degree. It comes with the territory. I've done a lot of reading on it and came to the conclusion that there was nothing wrong. Sometimes I do smell it, but no one else seems to, so I believe I'm just hypersensitive to it. If you have a yeast infection, there will be more than just some liquid discharge, but if you're concerned, see your doctor. Nothing like a visit with Mr. Speculum to brighten your day.

It could be a yeast infection, which is people's most common thought, but it could also be bacterial vaginosis.

BV is commonly caused by a vagina that is too alkaline. You can do a PH test and should get a PH of around 4 ie. slightly acidic. If you get a higher number it can be treated with lactic acid cream. PH4 is the acidity of tomato juice so maybe that might work.
