using preferd name at work

I have been using my preferred name at work for a wile know amoung my coworkers in my dept who have been good with using and the right gender phrases.
Ok a coupel days ago my boss sent a letter to HR to see if we can get. my badge changed to my preferred name even though I havent got it legaly changed yet still wanting for a response
