We're gonna have a new employee at our construction department next week. Well, she basically moves from the wood works department so she isn't exactly new.
I'm just wondering how things will work out since she's deaf (god I don't like using that word).
As far as I know, she doesn't have a translator (is that the correct word?) with her and people communicate with her with the pen and paper method. That's just kinda inconvenient at a construction site. Then again, I was thinking if I should get a small notepad in my pocket just in case because I can only sign my own name and cat (and I'm not even 100% sure about that cat).
It's not that I'd have something against people with handicaps, the complete opposite actually. My aunt has worked with handicap people at least my whole life and now my Mom is working with them, too. I'm always irritated if I notice people staring excessively at someone who's in a wheelchair for example.
Good grief, we're living the in 21st century, not in the dark middle ages...I'm just pondering this on the general scale and sort of looking forward to it. It's a new experience after all. And maybe I can pick up some new signs, too.
