Hi I'm Samantha. I just started seeing a gender therapist last month. I'm glad I stopped asking why. I've known early on in life I was different. After too many years of denial and labels, I have come to terms with the fact I am transgendered. Shocked at how finally saying it out loud is such a relief.

At the end of this month I will begin HRT. I can't wait. Part of me is still in denial that this is going to happen, but I can assure it will. It is something I need to do. Yes living as a male for so long, I am slightly freaked out by the thought of transitioning, which is why I plan on taking it slow. Low dose to start. Then we will see.

But a vast majority of me is so excited I can barely concentrate on anything else. Finally I am letting myself be who I am.
My first question was: Why is this happening to me? Answer: I stopped asking why.

My second question was: What is this? Answer: you are transgendered.

As I start on my journey, I am looking for others in New York City on this journey as well. I do go to group therapy, but it is not enough. I would like to socialize with other girls like me. It funny how many cross dresser groups there are but no Groups for TG people who are taking steps to become the woman they are.

Please, if you know of a social scene where TGs who are transitioning, I'd love to hear from you.

Hi Samantha,

A big Aussie welcome to Susan's family. It's good of you to drop in and say "Hi". Hope you like it here, and you stay for a while.

There is a mountain of information, resources and friendship waiting for you here, you just need to jump in start talking and ask any question you like. You're quite safe here and we are very accepting.

Glad you have done the right thing to labels and denial. They have no place in your life. What you've been through so far, is THE most difficult part of your journey. Admitting to yourself who you are. The rest is all detail and easy in comparison. Keep up the mighty effort you are putting into yourself.

Looking forward to hearing more of your story in time to come, but in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.

Lotsa huggs
Catherine

Welcome!

From NJ, though not a native. I'm about an hour away from Penn Station by train, though. Would love to connect with local girls and guys. I'm about midway between NYC and Philly, and lived for 5 years in the Mount Airy/Germantown section of Philly.

Scary as it is to admit this, I've lived in New Jersey now for nearly 19 years, which is well over twice as long as I've ever lived in any single location.
