My surgery is in less then three months now and my boyfriend has suggested I use silicone strips.  He didn't use them, but he didn't need to because he had keyhole.

Now, I had some questions about them, and I am hoping at least one person used them.

Is it really silicone? like, the rubber silicone you can find on some icecube trays or utensils, or is it more like breast implant silicone?

How expensive is it?

And how does it work?  I don't really understand how putting a particular material over your scars makes them heal better.

The silicone pretty much mimics skin in the way it works. It hydrates your scars, works as a barrier, and can help prevent itching.

I am using them right now.  I cut mine into strips and put them on at night.  I have been using them for about two weeks and can see a difference.  The silicone keeps the air from the scar which is a good thing.  I used bio oil for 3 months and that help as well but I wanted to speed things up.  The brand I use is called 'scar away' and I get it from CVS or Walgreens here in the US.  It was about $20 .00 for a 2 month supply.
