Slight fuzziness from spiro?

On my doctor's cautious recommendation, I doubled my spiro dose. I'm not noticing any really increased lightheadedness or lower blood pressure (it stays around 100/70), but I am noticing a vague fuzzyheadedness - almost as if my mind really just wants to doze off at any given time. It comes and goes - most often in the few hours following the taking of medication.

It's not enough to interrupt my daily routines, but I'm still worried about it. Does anyone know what might be going on?

This is normal.  Spiro is a diuretic and you tend to lose some of the minerals in the process.  This will go away with time.  Eat foods higher in minerals, except potassium, to offset this.  Spiro is a potassium saving diuertic, be careful of high potassium foods such as potatoes and bananas.  If this persists after a couple of months, consult your doctor.  If this gets worse, see your doctor.

Yay, helpful people! :)

Thanks. Guess I'll nap more or something.

I've always been a little prone to lightheadedness. It got worse when I started taking Spiro.

For me, staying hydrated helps.

Spiro is an interesting drug.  The parent drug is active but is readily metabolized or excreted.  Max concentration in the blood is about two hours after taking it.  Then, there is a metabolite that reaches maximum concentration about 2 hours or so later.  I'm guessing that the fuzzyness is due to the metabolite being at maximum concentration.

I looked all this up Thursday as I was getting fuzzy 4-5 hours after taking it and was trying to figure out why.  I couldn't concentrate and I was at work, which isn't good.  There are a number of options that you can do but starting with a phone call to your doctor is a good idea.  Even on a weekend.  I'm going to talk with my doctor Monday about this as she is out Fridays and her answering service isn't good. In the mean time, I started taking it with food, as directed on my bottle.  That helped on Friday.
To move forward is to leave behind that which has become dear. It is a call into the wild, into becoming someone currently unknown to us. For most, it is a call too frightening and too challenging to heed. For some, it is a call to be more than we were capable of being, both now and in the future.
