Help! I am terrible at makeup!

I would like to help my wife out with makeup, particularly in getting rid of beard shadow and all that, but I have NO clue what to buy (or really even how to use it). I NEVER wear makeup, probably only have a handful of times in my life, and most, if not all, of those times it was applied by someone else.

So, where do I start? I hear dermablend is a great product... what do I buy? How do I use this stuff?! Help a girl out, won't ya, please?

You can buy DermaBlend cover creme. Check the website to see where close to you sells it. Both Macy's and Ulta sell it. It's really a thick concealer. I'd advise putting a liquid foundation and setting powder over it.

Most any sort of thick concealer (jar or stick) will work fine too as long as it's full coverage.

While people judge the makeup gurus on youtube, some of them have some useful tips.  Everyone learns how to put on makeup one way or another.  You might want to look up a few videos and see if you find any useful tips.

There are alot of youtube videos, showing how to apply makeup. That is where I learned. They also show new makeup trends ect

Dermablend is good but there are alternatives. Transformation UK does Miracle Beard Cover in 30g tubs which pretty much does the same thing but you can also use theatrical make up, such as Kryolan and Leichner (the Kryolan TV Stick comes to mind).

Simply apply thinly with latex sponges starting in the centre of your face (nose) and work outwards. 

You can use any of the above with loose powder (translucent) and your make up will stay on.

It's always worth having a spare light foundation or cover stick in case your actual foundation is too dark for your skin.

If your foundation is too light for your skin then instead of using normal powder use bronzing powder instead.

But as said before Youtube has got plenty of tips and it's hard to advise on stuff like eyes and lips and stuff without seeing your face. Women's colour magazines are also great resources.

Has she started facial hair removal? That should be top on the priority list... Beard covers just plain suck to deal with no matter how you look at it.

I tried dermablend and it ended up looking like I had baked a cake on my face... Not good. I think my skin just disagreed with the product bigtime.

I'm pretty far along with LHR, so I've really only got any shadow above my upper lip and a tiny bit on my chin. Lately I've been using Bobbi Brown Light Peach corrector. I initially got it for getting rid of discoloration and bags under my eyes, but discovered it works wonderfully well as a beard cover too, with a little bit of super light pink blush on top to cancel out the remaining blue. It's my favorite way to do it so far because it only takes me about 45 seconds to cover my shadow. It lasts & looks great all day.

I went in for two consultations for my makeup and am going to a makeup party at the salon I get my brows done next month.  The people who help me seem to like me well enough.  The again, we've no bad habits to break!

I like the Dermablend.  I did get mine at Ulta - they were very helpful.  Helped me find a good match and then actually applied it so I could see her technique and how it would look.  I love Ulta.
