The transgender woman at the center of a first-of-its kind discrimination case in Columbus is still in bankruptcy.
This week's decision doesn't bring back the income Savanna DeLong lost from the Capital Club. Or erase the feelings of being treated unfairly.
But DeLong, 53, is proud that she spent the past two years arguing for what she believes is right.
"I'm glad that it set precedents," she said. "I am glad in the sense that I stood up for myself and helped others in the long run."
On Monday, a Franklin County judge fined Columbus Hospitality LLC $1,000 for unlawful employment practices at the Downtown club. It was the first penalty under a portion of Columbus law that took effect in 2008 that says employers can't discriminate because of "gender identity or expression."
