So remember my last post when I said the gender clinic couldn't honor their promise of putting me at the top of the list and it turned out they couldn't see me for a year?
Well last Tuesday, when I was feeling hopelessly depressed, I rang my support worker asking if she had spoken directly to the doctor who made that promise. She said she had only managed to talk to the receptionist. I wanted to know exactly why that doctor had gone back on his word so I rang the clinic for myself (ringing people is very difficult for me) and asked to speak straight to him. The receptionist told me there would be no point as he doesn't handle referrals but she listened to what I had to say and wrote a letter to the manager instead explaining that I was there before and they had given me a diagnosis and that I had been promised a place at the top of the list before I was discharged last time. She told me the manager would ring me back. She told me if I get put nearer the front they could see me May/June.

Over a week later the manager hasn't rang me lol. I got up the courage to ring again and thankfully it was the same receptionist I spoke to last time. She said the manager had been in and out of meetings all week so she couldn't ring me. She said they had sent me a letter confirming I was on the list and so on. She said I had now been moved up to 5th on the list which means I'll probably be seen May/June time now, possibly earlier! They can't be 100% sure until their financial year starts but it looks like I'm definitely not gonna be waiting a year. :)

Well done - that's fantastic news! :)

It's almost impossible for me to phone people too so I understand how much courage it must've taken for you to do that. It's awful that we have to go so far out of our comfort zones to get the treatment to which we're entitled. But as you can see, if you can get them see you as a person rather than a number they can move mountains when they need to.

Hope you're feeling more optimistic now. :)
