Hi guys!

Great news! My partner just had his top surgery today. The operation went smoothly; there were no complications. He's experiencing a lot of pain, of course, but he's taking it like a champ. As for me, you can imagine how emotionally demanding this day was. I am so happy he was able to successfully complete this milestone, but of course I am also worried for his health and well-being. I am now taking care of him as he recovers. Though I have everything under control, I would also love some support or advice from anyone out there who has had a similar experience or who even understands how I may feel. Also, if you may go through this in the future and have any questions, feel free to holler.  :)

Thanks so much!

Tell your boyfriend, congratulations.

I have had major surgery and know pain.  As long as he does not overdue anything, he should be fine.  As for you, take sometime for yourself.  You can use a break yourself.

It does not take courage or bravery to change your gender.  It takes fear of living one more day in the wrong one.~me

Good for him! Glad it all went well! As with any operation, the pain will subside, and things will realign to the new normal.

May I ask, how you are holding up? Any operation can be a big deal, but something like this is a big deal.

I wish you both the best! :)

Thanks for the support, guys! Honestly, it's just difficult watching him go through so much pain. He has been suffering from some digestive issues, so it's impossible for him to sleep more than an hour. I'm forcing all sorts of bland, healthy food and drinks on him, so he's getting grumpy. Which means I haven't been sleeping for more than an hour. Luckily, he's a great patient.

Go with a bland, easily digested diet for a few days:

clear liquids - juices and water
broths and consomme type soups'
gelatin (like Jello)
Gatorade

introduce low residue, low fiber foods (apple sauce, banana, melon)

avoid milk products

I can only hope that when I have my top surgery my husband will be as supportive as you.

Congratulations to your man!!!  And good luck to you!  As mentioned before, this is not minor surgery, but he will recover.  Look after yourself too  ;)
