Please allow me to chip in. I was also on Androcur for about a year. My sex drive went from hero to zero within one month. Dead! No matter what I tried, "it" would not work at all. Androcur took away all sexual feelings and my libido. I didn't mind though, but then came the tiredness, depression etc. Yes, YMMV, but I think for most people, taking Androcur is chemical castration.

My doctor then put me on Spiro. It worked for me. (Except for running to the loo a million times per day).

About a month and a half ago I had an orchidectomy, so no more Spiro for me.

Carmen, everyone here can only give you advice. At the end of the day, it is your decision as to what you want to do.

Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere, and sometimes in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself.

I've been on Decapeptyl shots for 9 months now, and they're even more effective than Androcur (for me) in lowering the T. The first shot made me feel awful for about 3 weeks, but since then they've been fine.

Sorry to bring up an old thread.

I started taking androcur on july and stopped in october (I am self-medicating and I wasn't able to obtain the pills anymore). Androcur had considerably lessened my libido, but it was still there (and it still bothered me).

The weird thing is: after I stopped taking androcur, my libido totally disappeared.
Now I'm back on androcur and my sex drive is kicking in again. Is that possible? Or androcur had nothing to do with it?

Well, if you're self medicating it can be really hard to say. Anything could be behind what you're experiencing. I'd suggest talking to a doctor.

If it works for you, Androcur is a great choice for an AA. If it doesn't, it can be hell.

After about a year on Androcur, I had a melt down, like a major depressive episode type melt down. My Psychiatrist advised me, in consultation with my Gyno, to stop taking it - within 2 weeks I was back to my old happy self.

That's interesting. During my first attempt at transition I was on androcur and I was in a fairly miserable frame of mind most of the time. I later put it down to the injections of Primogen Depot but maybe the Androcur played a role too.
