Moving to SF - need advice

Hey, I am 29, just got divorced, living in Reno and hating it. Losing my place pretty soon so I am just going to pack up my jeep and move to SF. I still present as male and have only gotten my beard lasered off so far. Long way to go.

But anyone have any advice where I should live, who I should talk to, I don't know. Any advice really would be great?

If this is in reference to SF, there is the LGBT center. I live in Inner Sunset and so far it works for me i guess but i came here after i transitioned so i don't know if inner sunset is a good place to transition, i still get looks (my friends tell me they are positive so that's cool i guess and i got three compliments from guys). Stay out of Tenderloin, Hunters Bay & Mission (imo, other people might tell you different).

I heard Haight is a good place and more open so there might be a good place to stay and i *think* it's cheaper than other places.

That's all i can tell you, i haven't been here long myself.

I just talked to my brother yesterday about his new house in the Ingleside Terrace / Montomery Heights area.  He said his neighbors are good and friendly and there are a lot of improvements being done to the homes on the hill around him.  But rents are still o.k. because a lot of people between his place and Golden Gate Park (St Francis Woods, Parkside and The Sunset) have basement or add-on apartments.   But parking is bad anyplace in the city so be ready to park away from where you live once in a while.

You really need to take a day and just drive around the areas north and west of 280, 101 and 80.  You'll be able to tell pretty quickly where you'd like to live.  But even if there are a few real nice areas in them, I'd still stay our of anyplace South of Market, or the Bay View and Portola areas.  Just my preference.

My daughter has lived in SF for about 6 years now, she has lived alone and with other girls as well as with a boyfriend in several different neighborhoods, Laural Heights, Cow Hollow, inner Richmond and the Haight. Prices vary of course from a $1100 studio, five girls sharing a nice Inner Richmond house that was $2500, and her and her boyfriend now live in a single family Victorian house with garage in inner Richomnd for $3500 a month.

When she lived in a basement apt in the Haight the rent was very reasonable....and as bizarre as it sounds, her next door neighbor was the actor Danny Glover!

  She has always felt safe in the city and also knows which areas to stay clear of,

SF is a world class tourist destination so expect to see them wandering all about the city doing tourist things.

You will benefit from great TG services and like minded folks in SF! One of the benefits of living there for sure.
