CO Insurers Step Up to Cover Transgender Citizens
Public News Service, September 26, 2013

As eligible Coloradans prepare to begin enrolling in the Health Insurance Marketplace next Tuesday, a second insurer - Kaiser Permanente - announced this week that it will cover health services for transgender citizens. The company joins Colorado HealthOP, a nonprofit cooperative health insurance plan, that announced similar coverage earlier this month.

Until now, transgender people have had a difficult time finding health coverage. Colorado will be one of the first states to have a health insurer selling plans that do not exclude transgender people, said Courtney Gray, Transgender Programs coordinator, GLBT Community Center of Colorado.

Jerri

I am very much just beginning, and have been very scared/concerned about losing my income, so coming out at work was not first on my agenda as I have a good bit of time that I need before I will pass, deciding to face that fear to help support / build my confidence I decided to contact the corp. HR director and explain my position and projected time line and hope for the best. I found that the company not supports workers rights but has adopted health care for Trans people follow wpath standards which will cover HRT and most procedures to complete the transition process much to my surprise I am not looking for work today but investigating options for procedures available in the US.
the point to this was that we seem to have a bit of momentum for getting some health care assistance in many locations and services across the US and recognition for transgender folks, I wouldn't go so far to say we are progressive but certainly moving in the right direction to have continuous health care and meds available. I mainly hope that this may reduce the social impact that seems to have such a strong influence on Tran's people and society and has had such a huge impact on Tran's folks in general
Stay strong xo Jerri
one day, one step, with grace it will be forward today
