Columbus – Governor Ted Strickland to attend 24th Annual Columbus Gala Dinner

For the first time, a sitting governor of the state of Ohio will attend the HRC Columbus Gala Dinner. Governor Ted Strickland, who won broad support from the GLBT community in the 2006 elections, is scheduled to attend and speak at the June 16 event. On May 17, Governor Strickland signed an executive order protecting state employees from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. His action reestablished protections that had been in place until former Governor Taft eliminated them in 2000. HRC is proud to call Governor Strickland a friend and welcomes him to its annual fundraising gala.

In addition to Governor Strickland, HRC is happy to welcome longtime GLBT community activists Karla Rothan and Linda Schuler, who will be presented with this year's Equality Award. Rothan and Schuler have been instrumental in organizing the annual Gay Pride Parade in Columbus and have been active in Stonewall Union for many years.
