This is how reelmagik puts the hair in.

I've tried the plain punching method on the Mr. Limpy and Sailor soft packs; it works well, but the hair does not stay in well.  The good news is that once the hair pulls out, the tiny punch marks left are not noticeable at all, so nothing is really lost by trying this method out.  Just don't expect the hair to stay rooted without some modification to the technique.  If you have something with a tab, punching will be more successful because you can apply a layer of sealant to the back of the tab to lock in the hair.
