hi. ive been on the beloved hormone for 11 months. im now in a mental place where it feels like changes come slow.. if anything happens at all. i feel my facial hair really started to grow in at 6 months. but it stopped like 2 months ago. and ive checked my hormone levels and theyre at the high end, so its not a hormonal issue. and i have middle eastern genes, my father and all my male relatives have LOTS of facial hair.. so i should have the genes on my side. but i just wanted some feedback from other transbrothers out there.. have you had periods in your transition where changes (facial hair)seemed to stop for weeks/motnhs and then started again? i just need some hope in my dysphoric state of mind. :/

and how long (MOTHS YEARS?) did it take for you to grow a REAL AND FULL looking beard?

It usually takes years (2-5) and some people never do grow a proper beard. It has to do with your genes. I know a guy who has been on T for less than 6 months. He has a full beard and tons of hair.

My facial hair was growing in at a snails pace for a good long while. I did make a very big effort to document my changes so I was able to go back and say "oh, look...a month ago you looked like this." Without any documenting of your transition, who you used to be would be a fuzzy idea when the clear picture is that you've changed more than you know.

I've been on T for nearly 2 years and I still don't have a full beard, but I'm keeping my hopes up that it'll fill in over another few years. It really does take time.

Nygeel is right about the documentation. I didn't and sometimes I think I should have just so I can know for sure that things are changing.

Also, don't go with any men related to your father as pure reference. Go with men related to your mother and to your father's mother, since the two Xs you have come from mostly them. It'll give you a better idea of what you're in for, though it still won't be exact.

I don't know if hair on the face comes from mother's or father's or both (Male pattern baldness is coded on the X gene, and since we have two X...). But facial hair, never heard a good thing about that, but it would be safe to say it comes from both sides.

In our ftm group, most of the guys do not get hair til after 2-5 years, and some of them have not gotten hair even then. Some men do not really grow hair on the face. Or scraggly at best.

I'm a year and 3 months on T and have a semi-full neck/chin beard, a thinnish stache and the beginnings of some sideburns.  The hair from under my chin is slowly creeping its way up my cheeks now - SLOWLY.  I always look back at my photos from a couple of months ago and it shows that the hair is indeed still growing in - it's just very slow when you're looking in a mirror all the time.
