sideburn poof

So, I don't have real sideburns yet.  Unfortunately, that means the hair cut around my ears into pseudo sideburns poofs out a couple weeks after a haircut, when it is squared off.  I've tried using paste etc to press them down, but then they just look greasy.

does this happen to anyone else? maybe I just need to use a better paste or gel.

One of the side effects of becoming a man is oily hair ... eventually your body naturalizes it and it will become less oily ... so i imagine time will help

You could try using a flatiron on it.

The poof is more just like a fluff because the hair is not anchored to an actual side burn. I wish it was oilier, then maybe it would stay down.  You're right though, Robert, in time real sideburns should make the hair stay in place.

It's only the hair right in front of the ear where normal sideburns are, less than an inch long for sure - more like a few cm, though a flat iron is an interesting suggestion.

I've actually noticed the poof on women with short hair and that is why it gets to me. Oh well!  Silly thing to worry about I suppose.

Maybe matte effect paste would be good?  I have some of that and can vouch for the fact that it doesn't look greasy/shiny.

Could you try thinning it out yourself at home?  I use some sort of really cheap beard trimming thing (I have no idea what it actually is, just found it in the bathroom cupboard) to square off the bottoms of those sideburn bits because hairdressers insist on tapering them to a point despite giving me a fully male haircut everywhere else.
