Well they certainly can't discriminate against you because of it. A lot of it prob depends on what the area you live in is like and how the store thinks their customers will react. What about Sephora, if there is one where you live? I think they'd be a lot more open to it and you're obviously great with makeup so you'd play more to your strengths in a beauty-oriented store. The thing with VS is that some women may want advice on how the lingerie and bras fits and some women, especially in a more socially conservative area, may be uncomfortable with a TS filling that role. Unfortunately, not all people agree that we are in fact women. Even though we are. I'm 110 percent woman. I come with 10 percent extra lol

I checked there site and i didnt see anything under carreers that said anything about having to be a curtain gender. so maybe they will be ok with it.  hope they are ok with it though.

I just checked the Transgender Policy and Law Institute's list of employers who have anti discrimination policies which include transgender individuals. Victoria's secret was not on the list - http://www.transgenderlaw.org/employer/index.htm

However, that doesn't mean that you couldn't work there.  I think that it's possible, but you really have to consider the region and location of the store you want to work in.  I think Joanna's post above was very accurate about socially conservative areas being tricky.

BTW-Contrary to Joanna's observation, in just about every locality in the USA they can discriminate against you for being trans. Which is why fighting for legal protections are important. A locality may have a law on the books protecting gays from employment discrimination, that is not the same as for being TG

To the untrained we are just really gay 

One of the benefits of being in the acronym is often we get protections based off being hooked up with the LGBs. Seeing as it's big in the news with the gay marriage thing, a lot of employers are probably on edge of appearing discriminatory against any LGBT people. Society is slowly getting tired of the BS. Don't let the screamy old farts on the internet deter any of you. If it get's you hired i'd just role with it.

At the "Bath and Bodyworks" store at the big mall in downtown San Francisco there is a cute, very tall trans girl that works there greeting people and working the register. She is very proud and very professional just like the other sales staff at that store. Not an issue at all in that city

Discrimination is everywhere and hard to prove.

If I apply as a woman clearly stating I am transitioning, I get nowhere.  Apply under my old male identity, I get an interview.  My CV is identical, my knowledge and experience vast.  I work in local government law enforcement and it is increasingly clear to me that despite the UK equality act, excuses can always be found to reject and applicant.

Unsurprisingly, when after interview, I state my status as a transexual, I don't get the job.

Go for it. It will mostly come down to the store manager or hiring manager at the specific store at which you apply... and how open and accepting they are. This is the same hurdle cis-people face. You might have a super resume, tons of experience, great personality, but you don't hit it off for whatever reason with the interviewer. Only one way to find out.

I did a little research and found this article written in the Gothamist about a study Make The Road NY, a transgender advocacy group, conducted on the hiring practices of various clothing outlets in NYC. Victoria's Secret wasn't included but many clothing stores don't seem to want to hire a trans woman. And this is in one of the most liberal cities in the country.

I don't see why they wouldn't hire you. I worked at one part time freshman year and a 5-7-9. Just give it a shot and be confident
